She’s talking with us today about what it was like growing up in an artistic, entrepreneurial family, how she developed her own style, why she shares her craft with others, and how she balances her work with ranch life. She also shares some encouragement for other makers who are living in remote, rural areas.

Getting to encourage people that live in kind of the same setting as me, that they can actually create a viable business and do something that they love that brings joy to other people, is rewarding to me.

— Nevada Miller

I really believe that everyone has a place in the maker world. But I also believe that everyone has their place to be their own maker. So I don’t believe in sharing for people to copy or emulate, I believe that I’m sharing to give inspiration to people and try to educate maybe an efficient way of doing something and then they can build on that. Because everyone has their own style that they can explore if they can just learn some basics of how to actually build those things.

— Nevada Miller

From day one we were always taught to be very hard workers, to make things for ourselves, and to be little capitalists, so that was definitely part of my upbringing.
