Episode 81 // Kent and Becky Evatt of Red Bird Farm
This week we’re in Enid, Oklahoma with Kent and Becky Evatt of Red Bird Farm. Red Bird Farm is a working Christmas tree and blackberry farm that also hosts seasonal events and workshops, a petting zoo, and offers fresh produce and apparel. We have a great conversation about the land and returning to our roots, as well as the importance of agritourism and a strong work ethic.
Farming efficiency has increased so much, you can’t really compete in that market unless you have a lot of land. And that’s what I didn’t have. So if you’re gonna get a little plot of land, you’ve gotta find a niche.
— Kent Evatt
What’s happening today is everything just feels plastic and artifical. And we want to have that authentic experience and slow down and celebrate the seasons and get people outside.
— Becky Evatt
You’ll love Kent and Becky’s focus on authenticity and all of the great plans they have for the farm. The events they’re hosting are so fun, so be sure to go get yourself on the email list and make plans to visit.
We’re just trying to figure out how to make this land and business pay for itself.
— Becky Evatt
We want to celebrate each season as it comes and the things that are in that season.
— Kent Evatt
We’ve had to loosen our expectations and realize everything isn’t going to be perfect, and that’s ok.
